160 players in the money at $1,500 NL Shootout.

Thursday, 9 June 2011

The first shootout event of the WSOP has begun with a turnout of 1,440 players now reduced to 160 after a gruelling series of single-table tournaments in which the winners of each table progress to the next round. All 160 winners have locked up $4,998 but tomorrow is where they play for the big money.

Daniel Negreanu, Lex Veldhuis and Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier lead the way (not literally, everyone has the same chips) into Day 2 but are joined by Victor Ramdin (who needs to play the $3,000 Limit event tomorrow as well), Scott Seiver, Greg Raymer and Nam Le.

In total, 16 ten-handed tables will play out tomorrow with everyone receiving $4,998 except for the winner of each table, who will have locked up $13,238. The 16 winning players tomorrow return on Day 3 to play down to an overall winner with a first prize of over $350,000.
