Wealth of poker talent plays in Event #43; $10,000 HORSE

Thursday, 24 June 2010

When the former $50,000 HORSE event became the 8-game Players’ Championship, a new Championship event was created to fill the gap – the result is Event #43 of the 2010 World Series of Poker; the $10,000 HORSE Championship.

A field of 247 players put up $10,000 last night – including the likes of Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Howard Lederer, Andy Black, David Benyamine, Lex Veldhuis, and 2010 $50,000 HORSE winner David Bach: none of them will be back for Day 2.

Pros Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem, Chris Ferguson and Greg Raymer all made it through the day with 2004 Main Event champion Raymer amassing 91,000 chips to take him to ninth place in the chip counts.

Amateur player Sergey Altbregin leads the 169 remaining players into Day 2 with 133,000 but just behind him is multiple WPT winner and 2001 Main Event champion Carlos Mortensen who racked up 125,000. Scotty Nguyen, winner of the 2008 $50,000 HORSE event, is in third place with 110,000.

The top five chip counts are as follows:
1. Sergey Altbregin 133,000
2. Carlos Mortensen 125,000
3. Scotty Nguyen 110,000
4. Sebastian Ruttenberg 110,000
5. Matt Glantz 98,000
