Toma Berder wins Event #56, $2,500 NL

Tuesday, 6 July 2010

“I am playing really bad,” said Tomer Berda when the final table of Event #56 had reached three-handed play. He reiterated to a PokerNews reporter: “I am playing really bad, you can write that.” Well… he may have been, but if so it didn’t do him much harm as he takes home his first WSOP bracelet and $825,976 for his bad play.

The $2,500 NL event that is the final tournament of the WSOP before the Main Event saw 1,941 players put up the dough to compete. After four days of poker it was Berda that remained standing with over three-quarters of a million dollars and a shiny new bracelet.

In the final hand, runner-up Vladmir Kochelaevskiy moved in from the button for the rest of his chips and Berder made the call holding Ad-4c, looking in great shape against Tc-6c. The A-2-6 flop gave the rail a sweat especially with a lone club on the flop but the turn and river blanked out to send Kochelaevskiy to the rail, albeit with $510,939.

The full final table payouts were as follows:
1. Tomer Berda $825,976
2. Vladimir Kochelaevskiy $510,939
3. Bryan Porter $353,260
4. Salvatore Bonavena $254,777
5. Mike Wattel $186,250
6. Hungcheng Hung $137,946
7. Ali Alawadhi $103,527
8. Joseph Curcio $78,705
9. Alfonso Amendola $60,580
