Steven Kelly wins Event #39; $1,500 NL Hold ‘em Shootout

Thursday, 24 June 2010

The $1,500 NL Shootout began today with what was almost a 14-handed final table; the remainder of two ten-handed tables beginning with the same stack sizes and playing down to a winner. Despite the presence of tournament beast Annette Obrestad, not to mention JC Tran, it was Steven Kelly who made his second WSOP 2010 cash a big one.

Kelly won $381,922 for the top prize, arriving at a final table without Obrestad nor Tran who finished outside the top ten. In the final hand, runner-up Jeffrey King pushed in his last 1.5m chips with Ks-Qd and had around 40% equity against Kelly when he called with Ah-9d.

A J-9-3 flop gave the shorter stack a gutshot straight draw but Kelly remained ahead with a pair of nines. However the turn and river made Biggins to blank out the board and end the tournament. King received $236,819 for his efforts in getting past 1,398 other players but for going one further Kelly takes home $381,922 as well as his first bracelet.

The Day 3 payouts were as follows:
1. Steven Kelly $381,922
