Scott Montgomery running well in $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold ‘em

Friday, 4 June 2010

November Niner Montgomery has made his mark in Event #9, the $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold ‘em tournament, by finishing up Day 1 with a mighty stack of 193,000. It’s not quite good enough to take the chip lead, however – that honour goes to James Dempsey who bagged up 205,900.

It’s mental to think how you can go from a 3,000 starting stack to over sixty-five times that figure but when you realise that of the 650 entrants just 65 remain, it makes more sense. Strange that if the word “Pot” was changed to “No” the field would have quadrupled. Nevertheless, the remaining players are all looking towards a first prize of $197,470 when all is said and done.

JJ Liu, Tom McEvoy, Dewey Tomko and Tom Schneider are keeping up the pro sector of the remaining field with Ms. Liu’s 56,000 stack enough to put her in eighth place out of the remaining field. She managed to eliminate the last player on the last hand of the night, drawing a flush against top two pair to move up to a stack of 122,000 or so.

Join us tomorrow for updates and find out who has made the final table of Event #9.
