Sammy Farha wins Event#25 Omaha Hi Lo Split 8 or better

Tuesday, 15 June 2010

It's not often that the hoary old cliché “it's a marathon not a sprint” deserves an outing but after an epic five hour heads up clash with Brighton's James Dempsey, Sammy Farha has proved that he's more Haile Gebrselassie than Usain Bolt.

Farha eventually sealed his third WSOP bracelet as the clocked approached 7am, a full 16 hours after the final day started. It looked simple enough for the High Stakes Poker regular at the start of heads up play against Brighton's James Dempsey. Boasting a two to one chip advantage it seemed only a matter of time before Farha sealed the victory. “Flushy” can back from perilous chip positions on a number of occasions though, even taking the lead a number of times.

The key hand came after five hours of two handed play when Farha revealed AAKK on a Q93QA board giving him a full house and leaving Dempsey crippled. The end came soon afterwards with an unlikely 9 high kicker proving the difference between the two men. Farha collects his third WSOP Omaha bracelet plus $488,237.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Sammy Farha $488,237
2 James Dempsey $301,790
3 Yueqi Zhu $225,326
4 Sergey Altbregin $169,368
5 Tony Merksick $128,097
6 Michael Chow $97,508
7 Eugene Katchalov $74,670
8 Abe Mosseri $57,552
9 Steve Wong $44,619
