Sagstrom leads $50k Players' Championship at end of Day 1

Saturday, 29 May 2010

With a buy in of $50k you'd expect stacks to run deep and so it proved on the opening day of the big buy-in Player's Championship with 110 of the 116 starters coming back for Day 2 tomorrow.

Sweden's Erik Sagstrom leads the way, more than doubling his initial 150,000 starting stack up to 329,100. David Oppenheim was the only other player to top the 300k mark on 313,800 followed by John Cernuto on 265,000, Steve Bilirakis on 260,000 and Justin Bonomo on 255,000. Nikloay Evdakov, Barry Greenstein, Josh Arieh, Dan Kelly and David Benyamine round out the top ten.

Dan Shak had the dubious honour of being the first player eliminated from the tournament after his set of nines ran into a straight in PLO. Joining him on the rail were Tom 'Durrrr' Dwan, Andrew Brown, Marc Karam, Greg Mueller and Brian Townsend.

The likes of Doyle Brunson, Phils Hellmuth and Ivey, Daniel Negreanu and a host of other big names are all still in contention when the action resumes in the early hours of the morning UK time.
