Phil Hellmuth still alive in $1,500 NL Hold ‘em event

Friday, 4 June 2010

As we write there are just 25 players remaining in the $1,500 NL event out of a monstrous starting field of 2,341. While Casino Employees’ bracelet-winner Andrew Cohen is by far and away the chip leader with over 1m in front of him, all eyes are on one man.

Phil Hellmuth is currently 5th place in the chip counts with less than three tables to go, holding onto 480,000. Reports are that he’s been running insanely hot all tournament but that’s hardly a surprise.

If Mr. Hellmuth makes this final table – he’s already broken his own record by cashing for a 76th time at the WSOP – he’s guaranteed a tidy payout of $41,843. Of course, we all know he’ll be focused solely on not just the $568,974 first place prize but the elusive twelfth bracelet – if he wins it he’ll be absolutely insufferable, won’t he?

Currently blinds are 6k/12k with a 1k running ante so Hellmuth’s stack is looking more than healthy at the moment. Despite what the haters say, he definitely has a huge edge in large-field, fish-filled NL tournaments.
Join us tomorrow to find out if Phil made the final nine and see if he can net his record 12th bracelet.
