Jesse Rockowitz wins Event #45, $1,500 NL for $721,373

Monday, 28 June 2010

Just before 4am Vegas time the winner of Event #45, one of the largest $1,500 events yet, was crowned as Jesse Rockowitz earned himself $721,373 and his first WSOP bracelet for defeating a field of 3,097 players.

Britain’s Sam Trickett made it to Day 3 but couldn’t reach the final table – the player with the most vocal support on the rail then became Brazilian pro Thiago Nishijima. He crashed out in third, though, leaving Rockowitz to battle it out with runner-up Raymond Coburn, who held a mighty chip lead through most of heads-up play.

This is No Limit, though, so things can quickly go pear-shaped. In a decisive hand, Rockowitz moved in with J6o on a Jh-7s-4s flop after being check-raised to a million in chips. Coburn called with Jd-2d and we were looking at a split pot until the 3 on the river, doubling Rockowitz and bringing stacks even.

Coburn, the very next hand, made a ballsy bluff with Kc-9c on an
8-7-2-6 board which Rockowitz called with 7-2 (manpoints for winning a
WSOP bracelet with the Hammer). This held up without a 5 or T on the
river and he collected over $700,000; leaving Coburn settling for
$446,000.

The full final table payouts were as follows:

1. Jesse Rockowitz $721,373
2. Raymond Coburn $446,274
3. Thiago Nishijima $315,828
4. Kevin Odell $228,614
5. Michael Goldfarb $167,405
6. Steven Brown $124,006
7. Shaun Malough $92,900
8. Justin Conley $70,365
9. Johan Jakobsson $53,892
