Humberto Brenes looking strong after $1,500 NL Day 1

Thursday, 24 June 2010

Love him or hate him, Humberto Brenes certainly makes an impression. The shark-wielding maniac has driven his tablemates insane enough to amass a stack of 146,400 in Event #42, second only to overnight chip leader Zheng Jackson who bagged 151,000.

Over 2,500 players signed up for the $1,500 NL event but after ten hours of play the money bubble has almost been reached with 297 players remaining and 270 of those receiving at least $2,756. Sights are set on the final table, though; the final nine are guaranteed $44,856 and the first prize is a whopping $604,222.

Some players besides Brenes and Jackson in with a shout for that monstrous payout include Jude Ainsworth, Arnaud Mattern and Jeff Madsen. French pro Mattern has made a few deep runs this summer and is currently tenth in chips with 107,500 to his name.

The top five chip counts are as follows:
1. Zheng Jackson 151,000
2. Humberto Brenes 146,400
3. Darren Spurlock 142,400
4. Grayson Ramage 130,000
5. Mike Sowers 124,300
