Event#8 - Pascal LeFrancois wins over $500,000 in $1.5k NL Hold ‘em

Monday, 7 June 2010

French-Canadian Pascal LeFrancois has notched his second WSOP cash in the past two years but this time he’s made it a biggie. For beating a monster field of 2,341 in one of many $1,500 No-Limit Hold ‘em events, he earned over half a million dollars.

All eyes were on Phil Hellmuth as the second day began, in fifth place with 25 players remaining. Unfortunately for the 11-time WSOP bracelet-winner he could find absolutely no momentum before the final table and eventually busted in 15th place, dashing his dreams of bracelet number 12.

With LeFrancois holding a gigantic 9-1 chip lead as heads-up play began against Max Steinberg, there was little doubt that the Frencher one would triumph in little time – unless he surrendered, of course. Unfortunately for his opponent, LeFrancois did not play up to dated national stereotypes and won his first bracelet.

On the last hand, the two players limped to see a Jc-4c-Kh flop and LeFrancois called a 140,000 bet. He called a bet again on the 5h turn before calling for all Steinberg’s chips when the Td hit the river. Steinberg turned over 4h-3h and LeFrancois jumped out of his seat to see that his pair of jacks with Jc-6c had won him the tournament.

The full final table payouts were as follows:

1. Pascal LeFrancois - $568,974
2. Max Steinberg - $352,916
3. Kevin Howe - $249,351
4. Daniel Wjuniski - $179,286
5. David Aue - $130,617
6. James Andersen - $96,422
7. Kurt Disessa - $72,087
8. Joshua Brikis - $54,579
9. Saar Wilf - $41,843
