Event#6 - No-Limit Hold ‘em $5,000 shootout Day 1 complete

Wednesday, 2 June 2010

Fourteen hours after the first chips were riffled and the virgin card was dealt, Event #6 has come to a conclusion with 36 players remaining out of an impressive 358-strong starting field. Of course, it being a shootout every survivor has 150,000 chips so instead of lengthening this article with chip counts we’ll have to do some proper writing. Dammit.

This event actually turned out to be one of the strongest line-ups we’ve seen at the WSOP, excluding obviously the $50,000 Players’ Championship. The final 36 players include no less poker supremos than Dario Minieri, Chad Brown, Tom Dwan, Chris Ferguson, “Chino” Rheem, Justin “BoostedJ” Smith, and Tommy Vedes. They survived Greenstein, Negreanu, Hellmuth, Ivey... the list goes on.

Despite this, the odds of a Brit taking down the bracelet look very promising – Stuart Rutter, John Duthie, James Akenhead and Neil Channing are all still alive and raring to go when play resumes at 10.30pm UK time.

All 36 remaining players are guaranteed a $16,607 payout with those that defeat their respective tables to make the final seeing a pay jump to at least $71,998 and a first prize of $441,692 – and, of course, a WSOP bracelet.
