Event #50, $5,000 PLO, Day 1 completed

Tuesday, 29 June 2010

Neil Channing called this event “the worst value event of the entire WSOP” but there are 460 people who disagree with him – people including Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Jason Mercier and Phil Hellmuth, all of whom survived Day 1 in the remaining 207.

Kevin Schaffel, WSOP November Niner from 2009, leads the field with an impressive stack of 178,900 putting him way ahead of the field. Also still alive in the tournament are Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier and Lex Veldhuis, who did better than the likes of Daniel Negreanu – who busted to a Royal Flush – or Vanessa Selbst who crashed out early.

Javed Abrahams heads the British challenge with both Boatman brothers, John Duthie and the Devilfish also in the hunt.

Day 2 resumes tomorrow to attempt to play down to a final table – with a wealth of poker talent still in contention and a multitude of bracelet bets on the line it should be an exciting day.

The top five chip counts are as follows:

1. Kevin Schaffel 178,900
2. Alex Freiberg 138,900
3. Kevin Boudreau 137,300
4. Jonas Entin 118,200
5. Dan Shak 100,800
