Event #41; $1,500 PLO8 concludes with 171 players left

Wednesday, 23 June 2010

Over 800 players put up $1,500 to compete in Event #41, a Pot-Limit Omaha Hi/Lo event that overall saw 847 runners create a first prize of $245,871. With 171 players left the bracelet is still anybody’s but the man who is number two on the chip counts might have something to say about that.

Behind Mike Chappus’s stack of 133,400 after Day 1 is five-time WSOP bracelet-winner Barry Greenstein, himself boasting 83,000. Also in the top ten chip counts are Phil Hellmuth, Mike Matusow and Dave “DocSands” Sands who seems to be high in the chip counts constantly.

Hellmuth is being Hellmuth and Matusow is being Matusow despite their big stacks – when the former limp-called with AAK2 double-suited “The Mouth” exploded – “you get dealt the best possible hand and you play it like a champ – you limp in!”

Moving away from the top ten chip counts, we find a further plethora of poker professionals as Andy Black, Brandon Cantu, James Dempsey, Chris Ferguson, The Devilfish and Noah Boeken all made it through to Day 2.
The top five chip counts are as follows:

1. Mike Chappus 133,400
2. Barry Greenstein 83,000
3. Spencer Lawrence 79,500
4. Kevin MacPhee 77,100
5. Michael Sopko 76,500
