Event #3 – Day 1 of $1,000 NL Hold'em event complete

Monday, 31 May 2010

Organisers were hoping for a field of over 5,000 for the first of six $1,000 No Limit Hold'em events at this year's WSOP. In the end only 4,435 bought in, which given a spectacular rate of elimination on the opening flight, meant the possibility of the bubble bursting on Day 1.

That scenario was narrowly avoided with 481 players set to return for Day 2 with the top 441 finishers guaranteed a payout of at least $1,877.

Leading the way is Braxton Dunaway on 125,000 chips followed by Thomas Jonides on 110,000 and TJ Boytor on 67,000. High profile names still in the hunt for the $625,872 first prize include Terrence Chan, Men Nguyen, Mark Seif, Eric Baldwin and Prahlad Friedman.

Tom Dwan's 2010 hasn't got off to the greatest start. After an early exit from the $50k Players' Championship, Durrrr was eliminated from the $1k event before the first break. Other big name casualties included former Main Event champions Phil Hellmuth, Carlos Mortensen and Greg Raymer as well as JC Tran, Jason Mercier, Antonio Esfandiari and our very own Neil Channing.

Play resumes at 10.30pm tonight UK time. Join us tomorrow for updates.
