Event#3 – Aadam Daya wins $1,000 No Limit Hold'em

Thursday, 3 June 2010

As expected, the opening $1k buy in event at this year's WSOP was an epic (it was the sixth largest tournament in the history of poker after all) with Canada's Aadam Daya eventually turning his initial buy-in into over $625k. Now that's some ROI.

The 31-year-old businessman went into the final day as the chip leader and after a few wobbles in between, ended it that way too. The Canadian eventually sealed the win after a very cagey heads up clash with Deepak Bhatti. Bhatti pushed his short stack with K5 and was unlucky enough to run into Daya's pocket Queens. The board provided no help leaving Bhatti with $385,106, not bad considering he started the final table as the short stack.

A delighted winner said, “It means I’ve accomplished something in poker that I’ve been trying to achieve for quite a while. This is going to make things a bit easier for me. But as far as changing my life it will not change me.” Daya was magnanimous in victory, recognising his good fortune saying, “I really think I got pretty lucky to get through so many players. I was fortunate and I played well, but I also got lucky at the right times.”

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Aadam Daya 625,872
2 Deepak Bhatti 385,106
3 Gabe Costner 279,327
4 Bart Davis 206,904
5 Nicholas Mitchell 154,425
6 Cory Brown 116,141
7 Isaac Settle 88,025
8 Dash Dudley 67,221
9 Rich Rice 51,735
