Erik Seidel leads 22 players in WSOP Tournament of Champions

Monday, 28 June 2010

The much-anticipated $1m invitational freeroll that is the World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions kicked off yesterday with 27 players taking to the felt. Most of the poker names that you expect were there – Ivey, Barry Greenstein, Johnny Chan, Scotty Nguyen, Allen Cunningham, Daniel Negreanu... the list goes on.

There were five eliminations yesterday, beginning with John Juanda hitting the rail when he ran into Jen Harman’s set of jacks and ending with Phil Ivey who rebuilt his shortstack before losing with KK to Chris Ferguson’s QQ.

However, there are many still alive, not least Erik Seidel who leads the field on 72,075; ahead of Johnny Chan’s 71,325 and Mike Matusow’s 70,575. Joe Cada and Doyle Brunson are both languishing at the bottom of the pile but with 22 world-class players left anything could happen.

The top five chip counts are as follows:
1. Erik Seidel 72,075
2. Johnny Chan 71,325
3. Mike Matusow 70,575
4. Barry Greenstein 56,775
5. Joe Hachem 55,650
