Dan “djk123” Kelly wins $25,000 6-max event for $1.3m

Monday, 5 July 2010

Let’s just sit back and look at the record of online player djk123. In 2009 he took down the second event of the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (Razz) and then cashed eight times over two weeks, culminating in two simultaneous final tables and a win in the $10,300 HORSE event. Now the young pup has taken down the second-highest buy-in event of the 2010 World Series of Poker to become $1,315,518 richer.

In defeating Shawn Buchanan heads-up, the 21-year-old Kelly beat out a field of 191 of poker’s greatest players; making this his fourth cash at his first WSOP. Nicely done. Frank Kassela couldn’t find his third bracelet for 2010 but his third-place finish is more than enough to catapult him to the top of the POTY standings.

The last hand saw Buchanan 5-betting all-in with JJ and running into AT – the poker Gods dislike your pre-flop equity, Buchanan; Kelly hit the ace from space on the river to seal up his biggest tournament win while Buchanan takes his, too, with the $812,941 he made for second place.

The full final table payouts were as follows:
1. Dan Kelly $1,315,518
2. Shawn Buchanan $812,941
3. Frank Kassela $556,053
4. Jason Somerville $386,125
5. Mikael Thuritz $272,084
6. Eugene Katchalov $194,559
