Big field, big names in Event #31 $1,500 HORSE

Friday, 18 June 2010

A gigantic (for HORSE) field of 827 players turned out to play in Event #31, the $1,500 HORSE event. Now just 24 players remain in contention for a first prize of over a quarter-million dollars.

Tom Dwan and Jason Mercier both excited the rail when they survived into the money bubble bursting – the former because of a plethora of bracelet bets and the latter because, well, he’s Jason bleedin’ Mercier and will probably win this damn tournament too.

However neither of the two could make anything happen and had to settle for cashes – better than the likes of Erik Seidel, John Juanda and Phil Ivey who all busted before the money. Robert Mizrachi would be set if he and Michael could combine their efforts for one Player of the Year prize – he’s third in chips going into the final three tables.

Day 1 overnight chip leader Ming Reslock had a rollercoaster ride to the final three tables. Her stack (yes, HER) wound up on 128,000 which is far behind the 469,000 behemoth that is the chip count of Konstantin Puchkov.
Play resumes tomorrow with defending champion in the 2009 $1,500 HORSE James van Alstyne returning as the short stack.
