WSOP launches Main Event Rematches

Thursday, 7 April 2011

Poker fans will be able to indulge in some 'Phoenix from the Flames' style nostalgia after WSOP organisers announced details of a trio of classic World Series rematches.

First up is probably the most famous heads up battle of them all – Chris Moneymaker versus Sammy Farha. The pair will meet again in a televised best of three contest and will start with the exact same stacks (Moneymaker 5,490,000 and Farha 2,900,000) they had at the beginning of their 2003 heads up battle. The stacks will be reversed for the second match before reverting to even should a decisive third match be required.

The second match on the ledger is another good 'un and features Phil Hellmuth against Johnny Chan. This contest will be a single winner takes all affair with each player starting with the same number of chips.

The third and final match will be one of the following:

1988: Johnny Chan vs Erik Seidel
2004: Greg Raymer vs David Williams
2006: Jamie Gold vs Paul Wasicka
2010: Jonathan Duhamel vs John Racener

The decision will be made by visitors to the WSOP Facebook page. Bluff Europe is hoping for a Rounders rematch.

All matches will be held on 2nd June in the Amazon Room at the Rio in Las Vegas and will be televised on ESPN later that month.
