WSOP Main Event TV ratings down on 2008

WSOP Main Event TV ratings down on 2008

Friday, 13 November 2009

Joe Cada has broken records – one of the best final table comebacks seen since Joe Hachem took down the event in 2005; the youngest player to win the Main Event (with two nines, too – take that, Hellmuth) but unfortunately not the most-watched.

ESPN have revealed the ratings for the World Series of Poker Main Event’s televised schedule, and while a not-too-shabby 2.1m Americans watched Cada defeat over 6,000 other players to earn $8.5m, that’s over a quarter of a million less than saw Peter Eastgate break the same record.

The general consensus was that ratings would fly through the roof due to Phil Ivey’s presence. However, the numbers remained up from 2007 which means the November Nine concept his probably here to stay for at least one more year.

Do you think the November Nine final table delay has been beneficial? Or should Cada have won it in July? Discuss it at our forums.
