WSOP Main Event Day 7 complete – Joseph Cheong leads

Saturday, 17 July 2010

78 players returned to the Rio yesterday, full of dreams of a November return and a massive payday. 51 of those dreamers will have to wait enough year for Main Event glory though as the field was whittled down to just 27 in a surprisingly frenetic day.

Leading the way at the close of play was Joseph Cheong on almost 25m chips followed by Cuong Nguyen on 23.1m and Pascal LeFrancois on 15.78m. Despite the field now being small in number there are still some big names knocking around though, notably Michael 'The Grinder' Mizrachi, Scandie favourite William Thorson and online phenom David Baker.

Long time chip leader Theo Jorgensen hit the rail yesterday as did David Benyamine, Jean-Robert Bellande and Peter Jetten.

Redmond Lee keeps up hope of a British winner. He'll have his work cut out if he's going to make the November Nine though, returning as one of the short stacks tomorrow. We wish him well.

The remaining chip counts are as follows:
