WSOP Main Event Day 5 complete –205 players remain

Thursday, 15 July 2010

Day 5 of the WSOP Main Event saw Tony “Bond18” Dunst begin the day ahead of a total remaining field of 574. After about 12 hours just 205 are left in contention, with Dunst having fallen cruelly down the chip counts to wrap up with just 327,000.

This is a far cry from new chip leader Evan Lamprea, who managed to bag up 3,564,000 before the end of the day’s play. Johnny Chan, Alexander Kostritsyn and Theo Jorgensen all made it into the top ten chip counts with the Dane leading the pros having acquired a shade over 3m in chips.

The two main Mizrachi brothers remain in the field despite Eric and Donny Mizrachi hitting the rail today and yesterday – all four cashed in the Main Event though, which must be some kind of record.

One of the greatest achievements of Day 4 and Day 5, though, was that of PokerStars Pro Gualter Salles. Yesterday afternoon he held just one 1,000 yellow chip but managed to finish Day 4 on 425,000. Now, he holds the better part of a million in tournament chips.

JP Kelly heads the British challenge with Javed Abrahams, Redmond Lee and Jamie Brown also still in contention.

Phil Galfond, Johnny Lodden, David Benyamine and Jean-Robert Bellande also made it through a day that saw us lose Scotty Nguyen, Praz Bansi, Hoyt Corkins and Cole South.

Play resumes tomorrow with blinds and antes at 8k/16k/2k. The top five chip counts are as follows:

1 Evan Lamprea 3,564,000
2 Michael Skender 3,527,000
3 Joseph Cheong 3,357,000
4 Duy Le 3,186,000
5 Theo Jorgensen 3,088,000
