We’ve already managed to complete over 75% of the World Series schedule, and it’s been a particularly successful 2008 for Germany. Last night saw Martin Klaser win the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha Eight or Better bracelet, making it three for the Germans so far.
All eyes at the final table were cast towards Erick Seidel, who was in hot pursuit of his ninth bracelet and thus edge him towards the threesome of Brunson, Chan and Hellmuth. Second in chips at the start of the night, Seidel’s night took a turn for the worse though, when Michael Fetter doubled-through him when five-handed. It was a dent to his stack which he couldn’t quite recover from, although his fourth-placed finish will probably secure him the Player of the Year award.
With Seidel out, the tournament was open for anyone to win, but it was Klaser who seized the moment. Eliminating Fetter in third place meant the German was left with a chip advantage on Casey Kastle, which he used with aplomb. Pushing and pulling Kastle around with constant aggression, Kastle’s last ten blinds went in on a J-9-9 flop when he felt top pair might be good enough. Klaser’s overpair of queens were a long way ahead, and with no jack or running cards coming to save the American, it was left for Martin Klaser to win his first bracelet and the $216,249 first place prize.
