Prior to the Seniors No Limit Hold’em tournament in Vegas, Dan Lacourse had won a grand total of $1,208 in career winnings – barely enough to meet the buy-in for this event. He’s added a bit more to his career record now, bumping it up an extra $368,832.
Lacourse had to outlast a record field of 2,218 players on his way to winning his bracelet. Biding his time in the early phases, Lacourse sprung into action in the final hour, knocking each of the last four opponents out.
European fans were keen to see ‘Mad’ Marty Wilson do well here, but were disappointed when he ended up losing a race with pocket eights to be eliminated in ninth. Lacourse eventually ended up heads-up with overnight chip leader Dale Eberle in a short-lived battle. The final hand saw the money go in on the turn of a Ks-9s-9h-2d board, but Eberle’s kings-up (Kd-4d) were drawing slim against the flopped set of Lacourse (9d-7h). A blank 8h of the river meant Eberle had to settle for the runner-up prize of $131,194.
