The final table of Event #38 saw another handful of pros sit down amongst some serious enthusiasts in a bid to pick up another bracelet. It wasn’t to be for British hopes Michael Greco or Ben Roberts, and pros Lee Watkinson and Chris Bell ultimately fell to the hands of yet another European player – congratulations to Davidi Kitai of Belgium!
The action began fast and furious, perhaps a little too fast for actor-turned-poker pro Michael Greco. Picking up pocket kings is normally a nice feeling, and when he was reraised by the hitherto aggressive Bell, he understandably put his remaining chips in the middle. It was a tragedy which belittled anything Bepe had to endure in Eastenders though, as Bell turned over aces and ended up sending Greco out in ninth. A great showing from a fast improving player, Greco can take confidence from his first WSOP final table.
It wasn’t long before Greco was joined by the other Englishman either, with Ben Roberts eliminated in eighth. Nurturing his micro-stack, Roberts eventually succumbed when his pocket sevens couldn’t hold up against the two overs of Robert Cheung.
Watkinson ended up being eliminated in fifth, meaning Bell was the last recognised pro left standing. As he got heads-up with Davidi Kitai, Bell must have been confident of his chances of overcoming his less experienced adversary. Over the next four hours Bell found out the hard way that Kitai was a quality opponent, with relentless pressure winning the Belgian one small pot after another. When Bell put his last few chips in with AJs, he was dominated by AQ, leaving Davidi Kitai as the latest bracelet winner.
