With the boom of televised poker, No Limit Hold’em rocketed itself to the most popular game in the US and beyond. Before the use of the hole cam transformed the game into the beast it is today though, limit hold’em was one of the more popular games in North America, meaning this event holds a special appeal to American players. Perhaps to their chagrin, a European pro leads the chip counts.
For many years Rob Hollink has been respected in Europe as one of the best Pot Limit Omaha players going, but here he’s shown his diversity by heading the field here. Following him to the final table come two players who are familiar to poker players already, tournament machine JC Tran and MIT blackjack legend Andy Bloch – not too shabby a poker player either.
Overnight, Hollink is sat on around 1,000,000 in chips, with Tran on 480,000 and Bloch on 425,000. The biggest threat to Hollink’s stack will come from Aaron Katz, who is on 870,000 and has already won a WSOP bracelet in Limit Hold’em back in 2004. Being a fan of crazy poker games, the Bluff office are routing for Jerrod Ankenman, who once published an online treatise of Crazy Pineapple.
