2008 is becoming the year of the pro. Following on from the successes of fellow pros Negreanu, Matusow, Lindgren, Pescatori and Tran, Barry Greenstein is the next to add his name to the illustrious list of winners at the Series so far.
The Team Pokerstars pro won the $1,500 buy-in Razz tournament, winning his third WSOP bracelet and further augmenting his claim as one of the best all-round poker players. Greenstein’s other wins came in Pot Limit Omaha (2005) and No Limit Deuce-to-Seven Draw (2004).
Greenstein wasn’t the only Las Vegas legend at the final table. Back in Greek-born Archie Karas immigrated to America when 17 years-old, and then laid siege to every form of gambling on offer. He took virtually nothing, gambled it up to $50 million – then lost the lot. He ended up recouping $19,607 with a seventh-place finish here. Only $49,980,393 to go, Archie.
While the rest of the table sorted itself out, Greenstein laid low, only opening up when play went three-handed. After a long heads-up battle with Chris Klodnicki, Greenstein eventually emerged victorious for $158,569.
