The weather might well be horrible in Atlantic City but it hasn’t stopped well over two hundred players turning out in an attempt to the WSOP Circuit Event Championship.
A total of 244 players bought in to the $4,900 + $250 event, surpassing last year’s field of 237. The total prize pool came to $1,195,000, and the winner will get a seat into the $10,000 2008 WSOP Main Event as well as the customary gold and diamond championship ring. First prize is $379,392, and those in the field trying to win the money include Andy Black, Cindy Violette, Robert Williamson III and Montel Williams. Last year’s champion Rick Rossetti is also there attempting to defend his title.
Day one lasted a total of seven levels and over half of the players were sent to the rail. Rossetti found himself near the chip lead going into Day Two. Robert Williamson III was also in close contention, ending the day on 91,000.
The top five overnight were:
Ben Fineman – 135,000
Rick Rosetti – 117,000
Robert Williamson III – 91,000
Louie Esposito – 86,000
John Racener – 80,000
