From the moment the event was first introduced in 2006, the $50,000 buy-in H.O.R.S.E event was considered by many to be the biggest test of a poker player’s true skill. A mixed game format, limit betting structure and with a buy-in that dwarfed all others, the event was considered the toughest to win, and it seemed poetic that one of the most highly rated players in the game, Chip Reese, won. To commemorate his passing, all future winners of the event will win a trophy named after the man himself.
“As a tribute to this great player who embodied the very best of our game, next year’s $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. World Championship will be played in Chip’s honour and memory,” said Jeffrey Pollack, commissioner of the World Series of Poker, in a recent press release. “And the winner will receive the ‘David “Chip” Reese Award,’ as well as a WSOP bracelet, to commemorate his achievement.”
The schedule for the 2008 WSOP was announced earlier in the week, and the H.O.R.S.E Championship takes place on 22nd June at the Rio Casino in Las Vegas.
