Tuesday, 22 December 2015

Organisers of the World Series Of Poker (WSOP) have announced that next year’s edition of poker’s most famous tournament series will start on May 28 with the final table of the main event set to get underway from July 18.

The 47th edition of the WSOP is due to feature a return for the $565 buy-in Colossus event, which is due to be ‘bigger and better’ due to its prize pool being increased by $2 million to $7 million with the eventual winner walking away with a minimum of $1 million in cash. The sophomore edition of this no-limit hold‘em contest will also see each flight play directly into the money, giving participants a chance to cash multiple times.

Last year's Colossus contest attracted a record-breaking field of 22,374 while the 2016 edition will likely see this figure increase. Players are to be able to take part via a variety of opening flights from June 2 to 4 with re-entry allowed.

The seven-week extravaganza from the Rio All-Suite Hotel And Casino in Las Vegas will additionally offer its $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold‘em main event championship. This tournament is to run over ten consecutive days from July 9 and feature a trio of starting flights.

The Millionaire Maker, Monster Stack, Little One For One Drop and Ladies Championship tournaments will moreover return for the 2016 WSOP as will the Seniors Event, which is to again feature a $1,000 buy-in no-limit hold‘em format for those aged 50 or older.

“We want to wish everyone happy holidays and best wishes for 2016,” said Ty Stewart, Executive Director for the WSOP.

“We hope some of your New Year’s resolutions will include capturing a WSOP gold bracelet in the coming year. We expect another well-rounded schedule offering something for everyone and another record-breaking opening with Colossus on tap to make a millionaire right out of the gate.”
