WPT heads to Africa

Thursday, 5 March 2009

After heading to every other continent it was only a matter of time before Africa joined the international poker party. The World Poker Tour and Chilipoker.com announcement of the inaugural WPT Marrakech in Morocco has filled that gap and adds yet more international flavour to poker calendar.

The beautiful Casino de Marrakech in association with the Es Saadi Gardens & Resort’s palace and five star hotel will host the event which is pencilled in for next October. Organisers hope that the city's proximity to Europe, its abundance of accommodations, and its status as a glamorous destination will attract the top players to the event.

Commenting on the three year deal, Steve Lipscomb, WPT Founder, President and CEO said "Our goal is to bring value to our partners and WPTE shareholders as we expand our global footprint."

The expected buy in for main event is 4.5K euro with side events a high-roller tournament and a WPT Celebrity Invitational also in the pipeline, Satellites will be running on Chilipoker.com from April.
