A few years ago, stories of one person becoming a poker millionaire would have made headlines. Now there are so many that the only way to get them all top billing is to put them in one place. And with over 30 millionaires competing at this year’s World Poker Tour World Championship, it appears WPT have done just that. The event is due to kick off April 18 at the Bellagio, Las Vegas and finishes on April 24, when it’s more than likely that one of the bunch of top earners will pocket even more cash.
Steve Lipscomb, Head of WPT, has described it as the toughest line-up in world poker and you wouldn’t want to argue against him. Last year’s winner Tuan Lee, who took home $2.8 million, will have to tough it out against the likes of Gavin Smith, Doyle Brunson, Michael “The Grinder” Mazrachi and Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari, if he’s going to retain the title. There’s even a good chance that the top three could take home around $1 million each, not bad for a week’s work.
Beyond the top earners though, there will also be 600 other hungry competitors, each looking to make a name for themselves, especially those who have battled it out online for the privilege of a seat. Whatever happens, it’s sure to be one of the best events of the season.
