If playing for a few bucks has started to get a bit dull, it could be time to unburden yourself of your life savings and get a seat at this year’s World Poker Tour season finale. The event, taking place at the Bellagio in Las Vegas between April 18 and 24, is expected to attract a field of 600 money hungry competitors, not to mention a likely prize pool of $15 million and first prize of $3.5 million.
If you happen not to have $25,000 put aside for buy-in, there are 49 different qualifying satellite tournaments taking place both on land an online. The Bellagio itself is holding two such tournaments – both with $2,500 buy-ins.
Last year, actor James Woods managed to bag a seat this way and this year the celebs are again expected to be out in force to see if they can create an upset. Pros making an appearance will include last year’s winner Tuan Le, Scotty Nguyen, Doyle Brunson and Ted Forrest. International players will also be showing their faces, among them Patrik Antonius, Chris Bigler and Juan Carlos Mortensen. If this has whet your appetite, then there’s still time to try and make the buy-in. And with payouts thought to be going 100 deep, there’s a 1 in 6 chance of getting your money back once you’re there. Not too much to ask surely?
