Shaun Deeb may have dominated the early stages of the Seminole Hard Rock Showdown from the World Poker Tour (WPT) over the weekend but yesterday’s session saw him come out on the wrong end of variance.

The final opening session of the WPT event from Hollywood, Florida, came to a close on Friday with 542 players having taken to the felt for a shot at one of the most coveted titles in poker.

With a prizepool over $2.5 million, the winner was guaranteed $660,395 and at the conclusion of the second day of play saw Deeb looking like the most likely to claim the prize.

However, despite topping the chip chart for two days, the American pro hit the rail in 41st spot after running pocket jacks into the pocket queens of Anthony Lombard.

With Deeb out of the picture, it was time for Kevin Eyster to shine. Finishing the day with 1,904,000 chips, he will head into today’s fourth session on top of a chasing pack of 21 players that includes Tony Ruberto on 1,500,000 chips, Faraz Jaka with 1,470,000 and James Joyner holding 1,378,000.

Today’s session will see the surviving field cut to just six players before an overall winner is crowned tomorrow.
