The World Poker Tour may have crowned its Season XI Champion less than a month ago (take a bow, Chino Rheem) but attention is already turning to a busy Season XII schedule.
Tour organisers have confirmed the schedule for the first half of the new season as well as revealing details of a three-year extension to its TV deal with Fox Sports. “Our strategy of global expansion is now being fully realized,” said WPT President Adam Pliska. “From 18 events in Season VIII to nearly 60 Main Tour, Regional, and National events in Season XI, World Poker Tour will provide FSN with nearly 100 hours of original programming over the course of this agreement. With the greater support and distribution that our new deal provides, World Poker Tour is now guaranteed to make up a major share of the best-in-class, US television poker real estate for years to come.” The new season gets under way on August 16, 2013 with the WPT Cyprus tournament at the beautiful Merit Crystal Cove Casino. The first of 11 WPT Main Tour stops currently scheduled until the end of December 2013, the WPT Cyprus event will be live streamed on WPT.com and mark the beginning of the WPT Season XII Player of the Year race. The WPT will then live up to the World part of its name by hosting events in North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean with tournamens set for New Jersey, California, Canada, France, and South Africa. "I'm very proud of the work we've done to grow the World Poker Tour over the past few seasons," said WPT Tournament Director Matt Savage. "With our new schedule and expanded global presence, it's more important than ever to provide our partners and players with the best experience possible at every stop the WPT makes. I'm looking forward to working with both constituencies to make this happen and to continue our worldwide growth." The first televised event of season XII will be the WPT Borgata Poker Open beginning September 15 followed by the WPT Grand Prix de Paris at the Aviation Club de France which gets under way on October 25. The full tournament line up is available at WPT Season XII schedule.
