The World Poker Tour has added a second European leg to its schedule with the Spanish Championship at the Casino Barcelona. The buy in of €7,800 saw almost 100 entrants play in Day 1a.
The turnout itself was a little lower than anticipated, but there was still a good selection of pros in attendance. Barry Greenstein, Joe Beevers, Ram Vaswani, Alex Jacob, Patrick Antonius, Steve Zolotow and Vanessa Rousso have already started their quests to capture a WPT title.
Annette Obrestad is also playing the event, although the WSOPE Main Event winner will be playing on Day 1b. Also rumoured to be on his way to the event is Shannon Shorr, who mentioned in his blog that he loved the city so much that he needed to make a quick dash to the event!
The WPT suffered from a low turnout in the other new event in this season’s calendar, the WPT Turks and Caicos Championship. However both that and the Spanish tournament are new to the tour, and so it may just take a year or two to bed down alongside some of the more established tournaments.
