Day 1A saw five of the pros with bounties on their heads survive.
Day 1B was a more robust effort from the walking targets though,
with 11 making it through to Day 2.
If you thought they might be playing a little tighter though,
you’d be mistaken. Phil Ivey managed to get his stack into the
middle after just ten minutes, and doubled up to take the chip
lead. He was joined by a number of other pros, including Jennifer
Harman, Eli Elezra and Dan Harrington. Harman went one further,
managed to triple up to 42,000.
Seven of the bounties did fall, as Jennifer Tilly, Kristy Gazes,
Robert Williamson III, Tom McEvoy, Phil Hellmuth, Gavin Smith, and
Josh Arieh hit the rail, making their executioners richer in the
process. One of those, Gavin Smith, was eliminated by another well
known pro as Ralph Perry managed to felt the Canadian and thus
joined Amir Vahedi near the top of the chip counts.
Ted Forrest is the defending champ at Bay 101, and his chances
of a repeat looked more promising after he won a massive pot from
Steve Sung. With a board reading Ac-6s-5d-7h and 85,000 chips in
the middle, Forrest managed to get a fold from Sung, and from there
‘Spooky’ was able to grind his way up to a little under
120,000.
Clonie Gowen (163,300), Paul Wasicka (140,600) and Ralph Perry
(136,000) are the most notable names near the top of the leader
board, but they are headed by Blair Hinkle who is on 170,800.
