A staggering 2,998 players descended upon Pokerstars this Sunday to take part in the richest online tournament of all time. The prize pool was a little under $7.5m, with first place netting a cool $1.37m. Top professionals Daniel Negreanu, Humberto Brenes, Barry Greenstein and Greg Raymer as well as dozens of the best online players took their chance at the prize, which was won in 2006 by J.C Tran.
Pre-tournament favourite Negreanu went broke after five hours after finding his Kc Jc had kicker problems on a king-high board against his opponent’s K-Q, and fellow professional Barry Greenstein fared no better after being felted earlier in the evening.
Greg Raymer fared best of all the professionals, cashing in 234th for just over $5,600. This game on the back of Fossilman’s earlier win in the WCOOP Series in the PL Omaha with rebuys event.
After a gruelling 22 hours, the first place prize went to ‘TheVoid’, with Team Poker Stars member Vanessa Rousso coming third. Rousso’s finishing position was even more impressive considering she had come to the final table as the short stack, which we’re sure will make the cash for just under $465,000 even sweeter.
