WCOOP 2015 Set to be Biggest Ever

Tuesday, 21 July 2015

PokerStars' annual World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) has just been announced and this year there's more money on the line that ever. Intent on breaking many of the records it already holds, PokerStars has injected $45 million into WCOOP 2015 and that guaranteed cash will be spread across a total of 70 events.

Kicking off on September 6 and running through until September 27, the biggest online tournament festival in the world will feature many of the operator's leading pros, including Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier and Liv Boeree, as well as the cream of the world's poker talent.

Heading the roster of events and serving as the jewel in its proverbial crown is the $10 million guaranteed Main Event which will kick off on September 27. Costing $5,200 to enter, the tournament will be one of the most watched online events of the year and this time around PokerStars is offering more satellites than ever.

Hoping to top last year's total of 77 satellite qualifiers, PokerStars will be running Mega Path qualifiers costing from as little as $1 in the lead up to the event.

As well as the Main Event, WCOOP 2015 will be dominated by the $51,000 High Roller. This will be the first time PokerStars has offered an event of this magnitude and it's expected to be one of the most hotly contest tournaments in recent memory.

Commenting on the announcement of this year's WCOOP, double champion Jason Mercier stated that this year's festival is set to offer something for everyone.

"The World Championship is undoubtedly the most prestigious online poker event of the year. There’s a huge range of tournaments, very slow, deep structures, and some massive buy-ins. Winning three SCOOP events earlier this year was awesome, but adding to my two previous WCOOP titles this coming September would be even better," said Mercier.
