There was a surprise winner in the $11,000 High Roller event at the APPT Championship in Macau. Russian Vladimir Geshkenbein outlasted the 64-runner field to claim the first prize of $226,690.

The super aggressive amateur steamrollered the final table to set up a heads up encounter with the legendary Johnny Chan. The Russian, who went into heads-up play with a four to one chip advantage over the ten-time WSOP bracelet winner, kept his nerve and after an hour of play got all the chips in holding K8 to Chan’s Q8 on a 6-7-8 board. The turn was another 7 and the river a king giving Geshbenkein, dubbed the Russian Bomber, the title and Chan a runners up prize of $154,400.

The PokerStars Asian Tour now heads to New Zealand for APPT Auckland, which starts on 14 October.

Satellites to the event are running online at PokerStars.
