Visa joins Mastercard in US deposit blockade

Wednesday, 10 February 2010

The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act officially comes into play on June 1. This means that, in addition to Mastercard recently blocking online gaming transactions from US players, banking giants Visa have joined them.

PokerNewsDaily conducted an interview with an anonymous source who is “an insider in the world of payment processing”. He claims that all gambling transactions have been illegal for MasterCard and Visa for a decade, but now they are finding ways to catch people “circumventing their rules.”

“[Gaming transactions] are not blocked everywhere,” the source states. “Some [online poker sites] seem to be operating MasterCard with no issues.
“Cash in is down significantly and MasterCard will freeze an account until the issue has been resolved.”
