Following the success of the first ever Virgin Poker Festival in Birmingham last year, Virgin Poker today announced the much-anticipated return of its poker extravaganza at Aspers Casino, Newcastle, on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th April 2008.
Tipped to be even bigger and better than its predecessor, the Virgin Poker Festival, Newcastle, will give Virgin Poker players the opportunity to compete in a two-day live poker tournament - and the chance to win a share of its whopping £28,000 prize pot.
The Main Event at the Festival will be a £105 Texas Hold’em No Limit Freezeout tournament for up to 250 players, with $10,000 starting stacks, 40 minute levels and £5,000 added to the prize pool. There will be no direct buy-ins to the event – all players will qualify via online satellites and freerolls at www.virginpoker.com.
Back to defend his title and hoping to produce a repeat performance of his success at the inaugural Virgin Poker Festival will be David Young – aka IndigoGB – who triumphed in Birmingham to win the main tournament’s £6,800 jackpot last year. Players can also watch and learn from the masters of the deck as plenty of polished skill will be on hand to offer hints and tips, including poker legend and Virgin Poker Festival MC Tony ‘Tikay’ Kendall.
Joe Legge, poker manager for Virgin Poker, said: “We wanted to let everyday poker enthusiasts enjoy the thrill of a big live tourney even if they haven’t got the bankroll to head to Vegas or Monte Carlo and of course you can’t have a Virgin event without it turning into a bit of a party! Having found a recipe for success in Birmingham, we’re excited to be bringing the Virgin Poker Festival to the vibrant city of Newcastle and look forward to further establishing it as a regular event on the poker calendar.”
Fun is definitely the name of the game at the Virgin Poker Festival, with a variety of side events taking place alongside the main tournament to give everyone an opportunity to get involved - regardless of their poker playing abilities. Practice tables will offer ‘live play classes’ for less experienced players, whilst Wii bowling - back by popular demand - will be taking place over the weekend in search of a player worthy of the Wii bowling crown.
To add a further Virgin twist to the Virgin Poker Festival, players will be able to knock-out key opponents whose heads carry bounties of fantastic Virgin giveaways, whilst STTs and Heads-Up challenges with the Virgin Poker team, will ensure every opportunity for players to have a winning weekend.
And, for those not lucky enough to win a seat at the main tournament table – or those not lucky enough to make it through to the second day - Virgin Poker’s ‘No Limit Texas Hold’em Freezeout’ side event will keep players entertained on Festival Sunday. With a 130 capacity, the event includes a £30 terminator tournament, with £10 of everyone’s buy-in becoming a bounty on their own head, and an extra 50,000 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Miles for the winner – meaning a trip to Las Vegas could be on the cards the following week!
