As reported yesterday, at the end of Day one of the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em event at the World Series of Poker, Vinny Vinh was second in chips and looking strong. However, he did not return to his seat on the second day of play and has not been seen since. Concern about his welfare is growing by the hour. Despite only playing the first day of the event, the 40 year old Vietnamese American was blinded out in 20th place which has a $16,212 prize.
The Wicked Chops poker blog reports that people at the tournament are concerned that Vinh may have suffered from a drug overdose or other sudden illness. He was also described as emaciated and aggressive. Vinh is known for being generally rude and offensive, particularly to dealers, and as a tilt inducing strategy that is pretty reliable. Another rumour is that he went to the side of an ailing family member in Vietnam.
If the police are not already involved in the search, then it can’t be long before they are called. Vinh is a highly committed player who has never been known to miss a tournament, and there isn’t a poker player on the planet who would walk away from a WSOP final table – at least, not without telling anyone.
We sincerely hope Vinny Vinh is alive and well.
