Viktor Blom heads EPT High Roller

Friday, 6 May 2011

Viktor Blom has battled in the biggest online cash games around and is afraid of no one in a heads up battle. One thing missing from his poker CV has been a high profile tournament victory but that could change in Madrid where the young Swede has the chip lead in the €25,000 EPT Grand Final High Roller event.

37 of the 58 starters remain after the opening day with the Isildur1 closing the day on 225,800 chips. As you'd expect from an EPT Grand Final High Roller event the field is absolutely stacked with a host of top names still in contention.

Those still hunting for the €525,000 first prize include Andrew Lichtenberger, Sami 'LarsLuzak' Kelopuro, Johnny Lodden, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Juha Helppi, Vanessa Rousso, ElkY, David Sands and Tom Dwan who returns as the short stack with just 16 big blinds. Durrrr wasn't helped by turning up seven hours late. Railbirds did get to see the Blom and Dwan face off, albeit briefly, at a live event for the first time.

The red-hot Roberto Romanello heads the UK challenge with Luke Schwartz and WSOPE winner James Bord also still challenging.

The action resumes this lunchtime when the field will be whittled down to a final table of eight who will all make the money.

The leading chip counts are as follows:

Viktor Blom Sweden 225,800
Benny Spindler Germany 208,269
David Sonelin Sweden 174,500
Andrew Lichtenberger USA 156,400
Galen Hall USA 135,400
Philipp Gruissem Germany 128,000
Alexander Luber Germany 126,600
Sami Kelopuro Finland 121,800
Bryn Kenney USA 117,800
Johnny Lodden Norway 114,000
