Another day, another video poker tale to tell. Once again, the setting is North Carolina and once again it’s all about someone violating the law in a major way. Michael Waguespeak, owner of Funtime Amusements, is accused of embezzling thousands of dollars through his video poker machines in the state. Yesterday, in an affidavit, he told a Cumberland County court that he was aware that some of his clients were paying out illegal cash prizes, but chose to ignore what they were doing because he preferred not to know. Any cash prizes over $10 are illegal in North Carolina. Cumberland County, who filed the lawsuit against Waguespeak, want to close down his business, describing it as a criminal nuisance. Undercover agents observed $8,000 in illegal payments from the machines over a three year period.
