Victorino Torres wins PokerStars APPT Macau

Monday, 24 May 2010

The PokerStars Asian Pacific Poker Tour has left Macau after a record field played down to one man, who wound up richer to the tune of over three million Hong Kong dollars.

Victorino Torres came to the final table with one of the smaller stacks, which makes his victory all the more impressive. He eliminated Briton Keith Hawkins when his 77 held up against Ac-3c before later eliminating Kenny Neilsen to build up an impressive stack.

Torres became chip leader after busting Jeppe Drivsholm in fourth place, holding A7o after a big call and relieved to be against K5, which couldn’t find outs to win.

Eventually, Torres and Cheong made it to the heads-up stages but after a few fast and furious hands it was all over. In the final play, Cheong moved in with Q6 on a T9J board for an open-ended straight draw and overcard but ran right into Torres’ 87 for the straight. It held, and that, as they say, was that.

The full final table placings and payouts were as follows:

1st - Victorino Torres (3,246,200 HKD)
2nd - Chong Cheong (2,088,000 HKD)
3rd - Cole Swannack (1,177,600 HKD)
4th - Jeppe Drivsholm (891,000 HKD)
5th - Kenny Nielsen (700,000 HKD)
6th - Brian Green (572,900 HKD)
7th - Kai Paulsen (445,600 HKD)
8th - Albert Kim (350,100 HKD)
9th - Keith Hawkins (254,608 HKD)
