Tuesday, 24 February 2015

Victoria Coren-Mitchell was the big winner at last night's British Poker Awards.

The journalist, broadcaster and first ever double EPT winner bagged three awards at the lavish ceremony at the Hippodrome Casino in London.

The host of hit TV show Only Connect collected the gongs for Personality of the Year and Social Media User of the Year as well as Poker Performance of the Year for her amazing EPT San Remo triumph in April.

"Vicky has been one of the trendsetters in poker for years, and her success in 2014 was fantastic to see," said Michael Caselli, Bluff Europe Magazine Editor-in-Chief and British Poker Awards organiser.

Other big names needing to find some extra space on the mantelpiece include Hollywood Poker Open winner Simon Deadman, who picked up the new Breakout Player of the Year award, and 2014 LA Poker Classic champion Chris Moorman. In addition to being named Online Player of the Year, Moorman also received a special peer-voted Players' Player of the Year award.

The British Poker Awards don't just honours the stars of the game. They also pay tribute to the people behind the scenes who make sure that poker is in such rude health in the UK.

Nottingham's Dusk Till Dawn took the honours for the Best Live Cardroom with the Nottingham club's WPT500 event taking the Best Live Tournament of 2014 award. DTD chief Rob Yong also received an award for the Best Contribution to Growing and Promoting Poker.

Social poker platform RankingHero.com provided welcome drinks for all guests and nominees, giving poker fans an opportunity to rub shoulders with their heroes from the game, while lead sponsor Unibet laid on a special pro-am bounty poker tournament in the Hippodrome's poker room featuring top players including World Series of Poker finalist Jorryt van Hoof.

"It was an honour to recognise UK poker's leading lights at a fantastic venue like the Hippodrome, and we would like to offer special thanks to our sponsors Unibet and RankingHero.com, and to everyone who came along to make the event so memorable," Caselli added.
