Victor Ramdin defeats Joe Hachem for The Big Event title

Friday, 11 March 2011

The NAPT L.A. became The Big Event at The Bike less than a week before it kicked off after a barney with California gaming regulators who disapproved of PokerStars sponsorship. Thus, this event was not decked out in red spades and black posters – until we got to the final.

Despite the lack of PokerStars colours, Joe Hachem and Victor Ramdin – two members of Team PokerStars Pro – made sure to fly the flag as they stormed through the field to the final table and took top honours with Ramdin defeating Hachem heads-up for the title and $500,000.

The 8-handed final table resumed play last night (1pm local time) with eight players guaranteed $30,327 profit on their $5,000 buy-in (or cheap-as-chips satellite) but with six-figure payouts for the top five finishers and half a million for first, no one was resting on their laurels.

In the end it was Ramdin, second in chips at the start of play and aggressive from the get-go on Day 1, who took down the event after a long three-handed battle with Hachem and Jeremy Ausmas.

It was Hachem who eliminated Ausmus, notching up his third scalp of the final table and going heads-up with over 7m to Ramdin’s 5.4m. However, Ramdin flopped a straight when Hachem got his chips in with an open-ender and top pair, doubling up and taking the lead. The Aussie 2005 Main Event champion fought back well but in the end lost out with A-K versus A-J. As TJ Cloutier would say, that’s poker.
