Vicky Coren fourth in WSOP Event #53 with 28 left

Monday, 2 July 2012

Vicky Coren has plenty of impressive achievements on her poker CV but one thing missing has been a final table appearance in a WSOP event. That could be about to change though as Vicky currently lies fourth in the chip counts in the $1.5k NLHE event with just 28 players left.

The former EPT London winner suffered a big scare shortly before the close, getting it all in pre flop with KK v JJ. So far so standard but a jack on the turn changed things dramatically. One of the two remaining kings hit on the river to send Coren rocketing up the leader board. She'll return tomorrow with 934,000, behind Hugh Henderson 1,168,000, Randy Ashe 1,150,000 and Bryan Piccioli on 1,127,000.

Vicky wasn't the only British player to enjoy a good day at the Rio yesterday. The starting day field of 3,221 runners in the latest $1k NLHE event is down to just 265 with Chris Moorman leading the charge in ninth place.

Other Brits still in the hunt for the $500,075 first prize include Nick Abou Risk, John Eames and Sunny Chattha.
